G+_Damian Allen
Is it me or does it seem fishy that AFTER the pre-order rush and selling 4 million iPhones, the NFC lock down came to light. Was this mentioned during the presentation?
G+_Yonas A (eriman)
what NFC lock down?
G+_Damian Allen
Yonas Abraham, the fact that it can ONLY be used for Apple Pay. You cannot use, nor can any developers use it for anything else.
G+_Yonas A (eriman)
Probably they will announce that future for iPhone 6s.
G+_Yonas A (eriman)
Else how would they sell new phones?
G+_Damian Allen
Then those people that wanted and NFC-enabled iPhone but already paid for this year's model could've waited. Just seems shady to me, so I brought it up.

G+_Dave Trautman
So, I gotta ask then... Damian Allen — did you order a phone? Than I have to wonder just how many people chose the iPhone over every single other phone available just because it finally had NFC? As to your question about the presentation. Yes, the only use of NFC they showed or talked about was for their Apple Pay thingy. So, yes, if people really did not do any homework then they might have ordered a phone and not known it was limited (for the time being) to just ? Pay. Of course Apple made no mention of Bluetooth LE in their phones for years until they later announced the Beacon thingy. So, then people were buying iPhones as far back as the 4 and it had this extra feature which was never mentioned. What a rip. If you have some evidence this restriction on the NFC application is a permanent condition – or even hardware specific – then perhaps you'd like to share with the rest of us. As with most things, it is foolish to declare some conspiracy before all the facts are in. Yes, there is a restriction. That's all we know for now. But it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the use of NFC could expand on the platform with future phones and future OS updates. I'm pretty sure you can cancel that order you put in before they ship you a phone you didn't want. And I'm also pretty sure they'll take it back if it's not the one you thought you were getting. I think I left some sour grapes in here somewhere.
G+_Jeff Stevens
I always assumed this would be the case...
G+_Damian Allen
Dave Trautman I'm an android guy, so no iPhone for me. But I'm not a fanboy, so don't blame that on the reason I asked. I don't think it's a conspiracy because I don't think Apple works that way. But I do remember when touch ID came out in the 5S, they made it a point to mention that it was restricted to two instances - unlocking the phone and authenticating iTunes/App Store purchases. The only reason I brought this up is because I watched Leo be let down because he bought those NFC rings for Macbreak Weekly, and now he cannot use them. I really think this was an important issue they should've addressed in the presentation. I am confident that it's a software restriction and it'll be unlocked in the 6S. It's just a letdown is all. G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
If nFc will be lock down in the future just right now. With home kit NFC makes a lot of sence to open doors etc so it might just be that the api it's not ready now.
