G+_Kannan Kv
Twit 388 Aaron Swartz RIP I am a father of a Three Young Adults. I as the father have learned from all of them. Once I savaged my son over an action he had taken, a clear free choice (and legal), though not a choice I would've taken. I had to step back and realize he is an adult. He had to increase in our relationship and I had to decrease so we could become more contemporaries as it were. It was the only way our relationship could grow from that point on. I gave him an apology with my most heartfelt respect. Podcasting has enriched my life. I commute an hour to work and an hour home. I don't listen to News or Music, I listen to podcasts and online content, most of it free. I listen to TWit. The Tech Guy, Security Now, TWiL, Windows Weekly. I also listen to material from www.mises.org where I've were I've gotten a first rate education in Austrian Economics and Libertarian thought. Both have changed my life. Now someone wants to exert copyright on "Podcast" driving a 'Podcaster' out of Business. We should treat the disease not the symptoms. " Copyright and IP are an abomination . . ." an Internet friend told me this week. My Libertarian leanings inform me there are way to many laws. To many laws written into the Federal Register, many written by Lobbyists. I understand Copyright/IP/Patents are in the Constitution. But the process has become perverted. Federal Prosecutor Ortiz said she was following the law. I think she was advancing her career as does Glenn Greenwald on Security and Liberty in the Guardian. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/jan/16/ortiz-heymann-swartz-accountability-abuse The State can use the all the laws on the books like we use the Yellow Pages to prosecute anyone to any degree. We all commit at least 3 felonies a day. http://www.amazon.com/Three-Felonies-Day-Target-Innocent/dp/1594035229 Aaron Swartz played an important part in my life developing RSS. Another part in the Liberation of Knowledge. As an Internet Technologist he has given me much. His natural life cut short would've given us all so much more. I don't understand the Torment that would drive someone to take take their life. This moment I shed a tear, it in solidarity joins and flows with his Aaron's father's tears. I hope these tears rage in flood for a life lost and the debate before us. I close with Lawrence Lessig's TED Talk "Laws That Choke Creativity" Carefully look at T17:46 minutes. "Our Kids Live Lives Against the Law" Aaron changed the World. Let's change the World for Him. http://www.mises.org
