G+_kevin jones
Leo Laporte - I'm still not convinced that Android Silver replaces the Nexus line. It really sounds more like a parallel to the Play Edition program. If there's a Nexus replacement coming, I still think it's the Project Ara stuff. Test hardware that updates module by module instead of a once-a-year refresh cycle makes a lot of sense to me. The timelines for both programs as the rumor goes puts them both launching for next year. A focus on design for I/O also suggests that software development rather than hardware is the big thing going forward.
G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
Hmm... maybe, but Ara will be the high end geeky phone, and Silver the consumer end phone... won't there still need to be a mid-range? That would be Nexus... At any rate, I'm really looking forward to what happens with both Silver and Ara. Want!
G+_Kyle Turpin
Elizabeth Whitmire The Silver thing supposedly runs from the premium down to the "regular" consumer stuff, all plain Google-flavored Android built by various different vendors. I don't think the Nexus was necessarily aimed at consumers, it just exposed a hole in the market where some consumers knew better than to buy the bloatware but didn't have un-rooted decent phones available. I'd guess it also contributed to the creation of the Play Edition stuff because suddenly other manufacturers wanted a cut of this previously underserved power user segment.
