G+_Mike Lawrence
Wow! The Apple Watch worship was crazy this week. An unreleased, untested product... And you are dismissing all other fitness trackers that actually have battery life of more than 18 hours SMH Apple designed the watch bands so that they are not compatible with any other watch on the market for the simple reason of charging excessive amounts for bands that aren't worth 1% of what Apple will be charging. $750 for a leather band, when the same leather band could be bought for $30 + $350 for the watch which is still way overpriced. It's like fish in a barrel and Apple users continue to drink the KoolAid. When will Apple users wake up and see they are just adding to Apple's billions? When that happens, the stock will tank, it's already way overvalued.
G+_bil Jeschke
With luck it will be another Ping, but history shows that anything with a rotten piece of fruit on it becomes the next status symbol. Next year they will be talking about how Apple invented the smart watch and all others are copies, especially Pebble who stole everything. ;-p
G+_Dave Trautman
Mark Stronge, you bring up an interesting mix of issues. Apple's valuation has nearly nothing to do with its products or services. As with most investment decision it is about how the company will grow and 'add value' to the investment. EXXON's oil isn't any better than what SHELL is making. But the way they run the company sure is. The ?Watch is not a fitness band or a smartwatch. It is wearable fashion with a tech edge. The straps are fashion. The device will have some cool features, big deal. No one expects to buy what's strutting down the runway during Fashion Week in New York. These overpriced outfits are a "statement" about fashion and are setting a trend. Apple gets this. They've been setting trends for others to follow for a long time. The bands don't fit any other product the way a Rolex™ band doesn't fit onto a Timex™ watch. Again missing the point and mixing up the issues. You can parrot all the usual clichés about Kool-Aid™ and cult, sheep, hypnotized fanatical followers of a messianic leader but it contributes nothing to the discussion. It only betrays your sense of entitlement. People like a quality product. Apple is still going to where the play will be and not where is has been. People who like what they make are not somehow duped and hypnotized. That would wear off shortly after they bought the product, or is there something you know about psychology you're not telling us? When the ?Watch is seen in the wild, then perhaps we can revisit this post and see if things have changed for both myself and for you.
G+_Mark Stronge
I had to stop listening, I turned it off. Leo Laporte? didn't even question some woman worried that Google were nowhere in mobile search and in danger of becoming irrelevant... Seriously terrible episode. That girl from mashable is an idiot. G+_Mark Stronge
Apples valuation has everything to do with their products. That's how they make their money. That's why tech websites show stock price before and after apple announcements. Every single announcement or rumour is judged by what happens to the stock price. You get standard 22mm and larger sizes of bands that fit all watches AFAIK. There are hundreds of watches that take a standard size of strap. The watch is most definitely a fitness product and a smart watch, why would you think otherwise? Apple have already said that. They have promoted the health and smart features in their keynotes. This isn't a quality product more than anything else on the market. The gold is actually well overpriced as apple have a patent on adding more crap into the gold, less gold weight, and yet still call it 18 carat or whatever it is. That has been well documented. Apple are again ripping off their users with less actual gold in the strap.
G+_Bill Whitman
Mark. I stopped watching Twit when Ms. Warren was on last year. She talks way too much, and is uabashingly biased.
G+_Lee Stoneman
Mark Stronge?, I haven't watched it yet but I guessed from your description you were talking about Christina Warren. Terribly annoying woman and talks a lot of nonsense.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Hey health bands have had years on the market and android wear(which after all the updates is a very good solution) a year and they just have not sell. Apple spent a lot of time in the health capture tech and a lot of time in the design of the watch bands. They are not the first but IF they can do health monitoring correctly and if people like the design of the watch and its bands and sell. Illinois then they deserve it. If anything we will have more choice even though besides pebble and Microsoft band they are not multi platform. IF Apple can actually sell smart watches it will help every other smart watch company sell gg heirs imho.
