G+_Todd Gless
Randy Hudson? Yep I have an old mk808 and mk908 stick that only supports the 2.4 band or I'd be on the 5g haha
G+_Jo Welde
I've tried all the streaming boxes, and much prefer Chromecast to them all. It's simple and flexible.
G+_Brandon Giesing / CosiC
Todd Gless No Android TV device supports it except the Sony TVs with it built-in. Also there's no Android Stick running actual Android TV so that might be why you can run it. You are using a cheap TV stick which is unsupported by Google since it's full Android and not Android TV. G+_Douglas Jenkins
Charles Griffin any device, phone, tablet, laptop/desktop running Chrome or Firefox can interact with the Chromecast. Cast local content (on device) or internet. Remember, your device is free to do other activities after it connects the chromecast with the internet with each video, etc.
G+_Joe Phelps
I use Chromecast for Youtube, Chrome tab casting, and Google Play Music. Roku is used for everything else.
G+_Todd Gless
Brandon Giesing? Well your wrong lol. Don't know how else to say it. Android TV is cheap Android. Android sticks are full Android, don't know where you heard elsewhere. You couldn't pay me to use your Android TV because it couldn't do even near what I use my stick for. Also why would an Android stick want to run Android TV lol?
G+_Brandon Giesing / CosiC
Todd Gless because Android TV is the official way to use it with an interface that's actually usable on a TV. By cheap, I meant that all the companies that make those are usually Chinese knock off brands with super low end specs that can't even play a YouTube video decently neitherless console quality games and well anything. Heck, it's probably running ICS still like most of those sticks. Also, If I wanted full Android on a TV halfway across the room, I wouldn't bother since you won't be able to read anything. Also it won't have Cast support. It's just different uses. So use it if that's what you like.

G+_Todd Gless
Brandon Giesing? Just because there is some cheap ass ones doesn't mean all are bad. Everything about the performance you said was wrong lol. Even the cheapest quad core mediatek (used in Chromebooks now BTW) can play a lowly YouTube video. Check out mediateks helio x10 cpu for one. For two googled partnered with them for use in Android one phones not to mention Chromebooks. I didn't even know ics Android sticks existed but good to know. All Android sticks can run in Chromecast mode by downloading one simple app. Please stop spewing misinformation Also if you limited yet powerful device functions for you then great. Some of us need to use ours to access network drives and have a purpose outside of watching netflix.
G+_Todd Gless
http://m.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-Orion-R68-Meta-Android-5-1-Lollipop-4K-2K-TV-Box-KODI-Rockchip-RK3368-Octa-Core-2G-16G-AC-WIFI-Gigabit-LAN-Bluetooth-4-0-HDMI-2-0-348376.html There's one example. Do I need more? Keep in mind that is the cheap version though. There are many ones out that that can dual boot Android, windows and Ubuntu. Even some that use Intel x64. G+_Todd Gless
Should be noted that in the land of Android stuff minix and tronsmart are two big names. There are others but I can't remember them right now. http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-Ara-X5-Windows-10-TV-Box-Cherry-Trail-Z8300-Quad-Core-1-8G-Gen-8-Graphics-2G-32G-2-4Ghz-5Ghz-351938.html One more just because lol? Not saying to buy those devices though because there are Android actual stick PC's that perform great (I have 2 of them and my father in law and parents both have one) for around $50 and under. G+_Todd Gless
Couple more since...just because. All are higher end models though. Although I would take them all over Android TV. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PU0Y8T4/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?qid=1443764949&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=tronsmart+android&dpPl=1&dpID=41b5oH42ccL&ref=plSrch http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00P7K3RHG/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?qid=1443764949&sr=8-11&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=tronsmart+android There is more but I'm done. Go look for yourself. There is plenty out there. Tronsmart and Minix devices are the known safe bets though I know for sure.
G+_Brandon Giesing / CosiC
Todd Gless like I said, what you want to use is your choice. I have bad eye vision so I can barely use my Android TV normally neitherless a full device. Google made it more simple for a reason, to make it easier to use far away and with a remote. The network drive could still be used on Android TV as its basically what you have with a different launcher and specialized apps. ATV is still Android just with a layer on top. As for Chromecast, you can do that but it's not supported and they can shut it down at anytime. They've done it before with an App that turned your phone into one. About performance, I based off of those cheap ones because that used to be only what existed. There was only single core sticks. By time lollipop came along those sticks were still being made and sold with ICS and no updates. So it's not misinformation, just not up to date info. G+_Todd Gless
i lied heres some more in case people are too lazy to look. http://www.amazon.com/MINIX-X8-H-Plus-Lite-Accelerometer/dp/B00RCUJXL8/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1443766673&sr=1-4&keywords=minix+neo http://www.amazon.com/MINIX-installed-Quad-Core-Streaming-Wirelesss/dp/B00XVYQN26/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1443766673&sr=1-13&keywords=minix+neo http://www.amazon.com/MINIX-Generation-Intel-based-Streaming-Authorized/dp/B00UMPEE3M/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1443766916&sr=1-9&keywords=minix+neo+z64 There are many others and many models that come with different keyboards etc.
G+_Todd Gless
Brandon Giesing?? Wow did you even click any of those links. Almost all models come with a remote control or have that option. Look around at different sellers because different sells bundle different remotes/keyboards etc. You could always just buy one yourself on Amazon though and have it work also. I can't say I have ever seen a single core Android stick but maybe I didn't try hard enough. Lowest I seen was the mk808 (which I have) which is a dual core. Also most of those devices support things that Android TV doesn't or has ports that Android TV doesn't. If you really wanted it would be as simple as downloading the Android TV launcher onto any of the Android TV boxes and boom! A device that looks like an Android TV yet performs better. Not to mention all the tronsmart and Minix models are actively updated and have a nice dev community if that's your thing. Not trying to bash Android TV its just I would never buy one and my hope is that by posting what I have maybe I have helped out a couple people ? G+_Randy Hudson
Todd Gless those may be great Android devices, but why do you keep referring to them as sticks? I haven't seen a single stick device in one of your links?
G+_Todd Gless
Randy Hudson? I did post one. Mainly I was trying to post devices comparable to the Android TV. I will hunt down some more though if you'd like. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00P7K3RHG/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?qid=1443764949&sr=8-11&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=tronsmart+android
G+_Todd Gless
Honestly if price is no concern like you earlier said it wasn't then I'd get the tronsmart model one just because tronsmart is a name I fully trust and the tronsmart models are actively supported on stock rom not to mention have a big dev community http://www.amazon.com/PCG01-Fanless-Baytrail-T-Quad-core-Bluetooth/dp/B00XP5H8MU For the more budget minded https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0116TNZC8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1443806419&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=draco+h&dpPl=1&dpID=31NK8mltYaL&ref=plSrch Nice remote if interested also. I use the Logitech k400 on both my mk808 and mk908 sticks tho and so does both the others I have bought it for. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DU7I75K/ref=pd_aw_sbs_504_of_25?ie=UTF8&refRID=50FB3DHAKR4N1M16XVK4
G+_Randy Hudson
Those look cool Todd Gless but probably not really what I'm looking for. Since I work about 60 hours a week I'm not looking for another project. I want something I can just take out of the box, plug it in and it just works. G+_Todd Gless
Randy Hudson? There isn't any time to be spent setting it up other than maybe downloading an app that you want like netflix if its not preinstalled. Think of it like a phone. Does a phone need setting up outside of connecting to wifi and typing in your Google account?
G+_Brandon Giesing / CosiC
Todd Gless when I set up a phone, it takes a whole day since I have to relogin to everything, download my Play Music songs, transfer my Podcasts, and I almost always forget to enable something till a week later after wondering why I wasn't getting notifications. G+_Todd Gless
Brandon Giesing? Well yu will still have to do the same thing with an Android TV so that is just an OE error. Either way get the Android TV and be happy man.
