G+_Mark Harry
Just finished listening to twit where they discussed yahoo reclaiming old addresses. Not sure why this is a surprise since others do it as well. Recently I was able to re-register an old Hotmail account that I had years ago but forgot password and answers to secret questions. Was the issue just how long yahoo waits before reusing them?
G+_Dave Peters
Tom Wisniewski here's the concern TWiT was trying to get across, in your example you were reclaiming your own email account, but what Yahoo is actually suggesting is that anyone will be able to claim a recycled email address, which means that if every database online linked to said address has not been successfully scrubbed of current linked data you have the possibility of someone picking up that address and in some cases having access to an account that was being used for password resets on other accounts
G+_Tom Wisniewski
Dave Peters Sorry maybe I wasn't clear. What I did was i signed up for a new Hotmail account. For the username I chose what my old email address was. Hotmail said it was available so I took it. So if anyone tried to register the same name, they would get it. Which in theory could've left me exposed to the scenario your describe. I may have another old username I can try to replicate again.
