Lamarr Wilson Facebook Home's 1 star ratings can't have anything to do with haters not being able to get the app for their phone since you need to first install the app before posting a review. When you stated that on this week's TWiT show (401) I was hoping one of the others Leo Laporte Chad Johnson would have mentioned that.

 

I personally think those 1 star ratings are from people that tried the app briefly and realized that it may add a bit of cool functionality (chat heads)...but at the expense of crippling (or at least getting in the way of) other highly used functions on one's phone. While I am not the intended user for such an app I do think it has some cool and revolutionary qualities but I think Facebook's marketing department is making it harder on this app's chances of survival by not being more realistic and open about who this app is perfect for. Now I must go as I've gotta go tell grandma and my 16-year-old daughter about this app.

Lou Gagliardi I do not work for Facebook. I personally didn't think my comments were that kind to them. If I were to rate the app it would be 1 star. However, how they chose to develop a launcher in the way they did I thought was revolutionary. I also liked their use of chat heads and would love to see that type of overlay become a part of future Android OS builds.

I think that the message behind these ratings is not as simple as it seems. It's possible that a large contingent of these 1-star reviewers were from people who downloaded it with dark curiosity, then were happy to quickly remove it and give their 1-star rating as advertisement of the fact that their expectations were validated. But how can we know who these people are and whether they reflect the target audience Facebook is going after? I think I just rehashed what Tom Merritt said on TNT today ;-).
