G+_Phillip Dyson
Any idea why Twitter suddenly wants to receive SMS? Are they planning to take a stab at being the default messaging app in Kit Kat?
G+_James Healy
Wouldn't they need to be able to send SMS too? It may just have had spyware added. When they remove it I'll update!
G+_Phillip Dyson
James Healy good point. I thought it was curious timing with Android allowing you to switch the default messaging app. I can't say is be surprised if Twitter, WhatsApp and others got in on this. G+_Robert Marshall
"Tweets" are nothing more than a fancy name for SMS sent through their servers. Perhaps they already had Send permissions outlined in their EULA, and some lawyer noticed they didn't have Receive permissions expressly laid out? As for timing, makes perfectly good sense to me since Kit Kat was effectively just released.
G+_Leif
Phillip Dyson Didn't Twitter uses SMS for it's 2-step Auth? Maybe they use it for that feature.

G+_Phillip Dyson
Maybe the SMS will come later as an oversight. If these guys aren't doing this then they should. What better way to compete with iMessage. Even Skype could get in on it. That type of competition my cause Google to move faster with Hangouts and Google Voice. G+_Andreas Ebbert-Karroum
Back to the roots? In the early days, twitter was in fact using SMS a lot :)
G+_Chris “W8WOT”
Robert Marshall and Andreas Ebbert-Karroum both are spot on. I still get sms to my google voice number from a couple of people I follow. I had turned on send updates via sms and for whatever reason I cant turn it off now. Not a major deal since its sent via gvoice.
