G+_Leif
Samsung started the rollout of Lollipop for the S5 - currently in Poland. With all the videos of stable official Lollipop builds running on the S4, Note 3 and Note 4 it's much likely that their update will follow very soon as well. It looks like the preview rom of Lollipop really helped the manufacturers to release updates much earlier. I hope Google will keep this new strategy and do it with every major update in the future. G+_Joseph Cappellino
It's not actually the preview that's helping OEMs, it's the new program that let's the non-Nexus OEMs early access to the source code. Without this, the OEMs would be in the same boat as AOSP based ROMs.
G+_Leif
I've read somewhere an interview where Google said that they got very positive feedback from the OEMs about the preview and that it helped them a lot because they could more openly share and test the new builds internally. The PDK program on the other side was there since 2012, but never really helped that much. I would guess that with the pdk they maybe had to keep it more secret..but who knows. I think this was also the first time where there was quite some time between the first announcement (summer) and the final release which might have helped as well.
