G+_Jamie Todd
Hi, I was given a unlocked Verizon HTC One M8, and I bought a T-Mobile SIM starter kit from WalMart, so I could use the $30.00 unlimited web and text, and 100 minutes plan. I got it activated on Tuesday, and ported my # over to it. But, I am having nothing but trouble getting everything to work correctly. Sometimes making or receiving calls won't work, the same with SMS or picture messaging. It's kind of hit or miss with it. Connecting to data is also unreliable. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I know it's not the network, because my wife has a T-Mobile Nokia Windows phone, and she doesn't have those problems. T-Mobile support directed me to a few of their pages that have directions for settings, which I made sure were put in correctly. They suggested that I contact HTC, which I did, and I am still waiting for a reply from them. I am wondering if anyone has been able to successfully get a unlocked Verizon HTC One M8 to work on T-Mobile? Does anyone have any solutions, or suggestions, or advice? I am kind of desperate, as I am disabled, with multiple health issues. I need to have a working phone with me at all times, just in case of emergencies. The previous phone I had, was a refurbished Samsung transform Ultra, it was from Ting, using sprint. The phone barely worked, and kept crashing on me, plus multiple other issues. Also, Ting uses Sprint, and the coverage was very poor. If it comes down to it, I might have to go to Verizon after riding out the 30 days with T-Mobile, and get a prepaid sim card and prepaid plan for the phone, or maybe use Straight Talk or Net10. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Take care, Jamie?
G+_Jamie Todd
BTW, T-Mobile has their own wifi calling app or service for their phones, but it is unavailable to me, since it is not a T-Mobile phone. I am looking for a good app that I could install, and be able to make calls using wifi, or the data part o f the service from T-Mobile. I didn't know if Google Voice, or Hangouts would be the best option, or there is something better??
G+_Jamie Todd
P.S. When it is connected to wifi, I have noticed it is even harder for the phone to make & receive calls and text messages.?
G+_Javier Rodriguez
I tried to use a Verizon moto x with tmobile* and had similar problems. I sold the Verizon device and bought a pure edition it works fine.?
G+_Joseph Cappellino
You may be experiencing strange issue due to using a Verizon phone on T-Mobile. It might be due to a lack or radio support for all of the necessary bands. I would suggest testing the phone with someone's Verizon SIM to see if that works. This will eliminate the phone as an issue. If that works, make sure your SIM works in someone's T-Mobile/AT&T phone. If that works, it's the phone/SIM combo. Good luck. G+_Steve LeMoine
I could be wrong, but Verizon branded phones do not have the GSM frequencies that Tmobile uses for getting data. If you get data at all it will only be on the very slow 2g Edge Network. An unlocked ATT phone would work on T mobile because they are GSM phones also. Verizon and Sprint are CDMA Networks
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Steve LeMoine - Things have changed over the last couple of years. Most Verizon phones come with GSM radios, but not support for all of the bands. It's really hit or miss. Again, Jamie Todd, your best bet is to get a T-Mobile phone. G+_Steve LeMoine
Joseph Cappellino I wasn't aware of that. Makes sense though or it would not work at all. My nephew has a Verizon Note 3 on Straight Talk (Tmobile) and he has the same issues. Your advice is right on. I would trade it for a TMo phone
G+_Jamie Todd
Unfortunately, I'm disabled, and on a very fixed income. Which is why i was given the phone by someone that was trying to help me out. I am not really able to afford to buy a new phone. If it comes down to it, I'll just have to wait until the 30 day $30.00 plan is almost up with T-Mobile ( walmart and t-mobile wo't refund me my money for the sim starter kit ), and go to Verizon, and get their sim starter kit, and get a prepaid plan with them. I didn't want to do it, because T-Mobile has better prices, even though verizon probably has the best coverage in our area.

G+_Jamie Todd
It's unlocked, but it has not been rooted. It has KitKat: Android 4.4.2.

G+_Jamie Todd
It seems to only work in cdma mode for system update, and I think T-Mobile doesn't work in CDMA mode?
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Jamie Todd borrow someone else's VZW SIM card for the update. Or, you can try to find the OTA (Over-the-Air) zip file. From there, you might be able to flash it manually.
G+_Jamie Todd
I don't really know anyone that has a Verizon phone. But, when I got the phone, it still had the old verizon deactivated sim card in it, would I be able t get the update, if I use it, and connect to my wifi? I realize this is probably a dumb question, as it probably wouldn't work that way. Since my health and disabilities took a downwards turn, my once very good tech skills have somewhat declined. G+_Joseph Cappellino
Jamie Todd - I'm not exactly sure, but it can't hurt to try. Good luck.
G+_Jamie Todd
I'll try it out. Thanks.
G+_Jamie Todd
I tried the deactivated Verizon SIM card, it didn't work unfortunately. I'm probably just going to have to wait it out until next month, and switch over to Verizon prepaid to get it to work properly. I don't know how well I would do by flashing the file, as I never did it before.
