G+_Adam Olivero
Hey AAA community. I'm currently using Llama but I'm finding that since I live in a rural area and my work is 5 minutes from my house its on the same cell towers. I'd like a app that doesn't drain to much battery but works like Llama (To Turn ringers and Wi-Fi off, etc.) and does it via geofencing. Any recommendations from the Play Store? P.S. I'm willing to spend money it doesn't need to be free.
G+_Nick Webster
Tasker is good.
G+_Adam Olivero
Nick Webster I've heard that. Does it use geo fencing?
G+_Jim Cushman (Cushmanzad
I'm not sure if Tasker can pull a geo off anything but GPS but I know Tasker works great for muting my notifications, switching off wifi, etc. when I hop into my truck to go anywhere passed the end of my block. G+_Adam Olivero
Jim Cushman thanks. How is it on battery life?
G+_Julie Wills
Tasker can use the presence of (not even connection to) a specific WiFi SSID as a trigger. Llama may be able to do the same. i.e. don't use location at all, but use something else that is specific to location. At home, it's your own SSID, at work, it's the work one (or the neighbour's one if you don't have WiFi at work)
G+_Adam Olivero
Julie Wills thanks Julie. Can tasker turn off WiFi too? Of course I assume it can't detect the ssids then if its off
G+_Jim Cushman (Cushmanzad
+Adam Olivero, I've not seen any noticeable extra drain but that's probably going to depend on the phone itself.
G+_Jim Cushman (Cushmanzad
+Julie Wills, I had no idea it could do that. That is an awesome little trick.

G+_Adam Olivero
I was looking at locale too but tasker is cheeper
G+_Julie Wills
Adam Olivero It now has an option to turn WiFi on briefly to look for an SSID. I don't bother turning WiFi off on my devices though, except if the battery gets low (and switching it off when the battery is low is automated using Tasker :-) ) But you might want to consider what other states might be unique to being at home or being at work. If push comes to shove, you could use an NFC tag.
G+_Jason Fleisher
In Llama, you can ignore that cell tower and add wifi access points to the location definitions. That won't help if you have wifi off, though. There is also a map plugin that lets you define an area on a map to include in your location. It probably has a toll on battery life, though. G+_Tim Ingles
With Tasker if your really looking to turn wifi off at work you could set a calendar event for it to respond to(I personally use nfc tags to trigger Tasker tasks when I am on my way and leaving work(I use wifi ssids to determine when I have gotten home or @ work) ? G+_Adam Olivero
Thanks for the opinions. I can't use NFC I'm on a Galaxy S2. I might look into tasker more.
G+_Chris Neher
Fences uses the new location api and it works pretty well IMO. Battery drain is minimal. YMMV.
