I'd have posts from 3-5 days ago appearing front and center of my stream, do I really need to see old posts? Is this Google+'s way of showing me what I have missed over the past few days? Do I really have to scroll past multiple posts from the same person (or) brand over and over? No, no, and no. So, how can we fix this mess? How can we achieve simplicity within social streams? How can we end the endless scrolling? - Categorize posts? Hmm... algorithmically select posts? Well, here's an idea: Why not layer posts together with a time limit? How it works Okay, let me explain: Below is a concept of 'Post Layer' - Each post from a person (or) brand page will be layered on top of each other for 24hrs (this only works if you have posted more than once). In this case, I have used Google's brand page which has posted more than one post (indicated by layers). Now as a user you simply swipe left to go through the posts that Google has made within that time period (24hrs). After the given time, posts that you have made will break down to a single block, making room for newer posts to take its place within 'layers'. 'Post Layer' will house your posts in a simple, elegant way. How it feels Get your visual thinking caps on: To interact with a post, you simply click on whatever layer is on top, which will then seamlessly animate with an origami-like foldout, umm... like unfolding a folded paper to view more of the content within. - Features: Once clicked on the arrow at the top right corner, it'll slide-out a menu which will give you options like: Mute post, bookmarking to read later, remove from circle(s), link to post, and report post. Below the post will hold top 3 plussed comments with profile pics, which will cycle through in the comment section. Once again, this is just an idea. G+_L I
I like the idea of scrolling up/down piles of posts (deck of cards) that shows posts from a person/community - then when I select that pile it comes in focus and I can slide left/right to see their posts sorted either by date or by some sort of importance algorithm. I also wouldn't be opposed to having the two axis scrolling on the same screen. I'm struggling to think of an example other than the iOS App Store. Imagine the up/down scrolling as it is now with the left/right scrolling like Lollipop's recent apps.
G+_Vinoth Ragunathan
Lionel D That's not a bad idea. But I was thinking along the lines of Inbox by Gmail. The layer view is like what Inbox does, it just gives you an easier view/breakdowns of your social feed for the day. And for the 23hr problem/missed post(s) -> You can always see every posts that the person has made if you click their profile (or) just scroll down if you have the time. The layer view is for the top half of the home page (stream) only, for a fast glimpse of your followers.? Hope this helps explaining the idea a lil' more. G+_L I
Yeah ok I see now. The expand/contract action - I like it. It would make skimming a lot easier.
