G+_Tony Kwok
I have to say that Lollipop has been running great for me even though I have read of others having strange little quirks. I have a Nexus 5 running on Virgin (Bell) in Canada. I did the OTA upgrade almost a week ago and here are my thoughts on it. The only app that did not behave was Swiftkey. It would fail to pop up when I tapped on a text field. Switching to the default google keyboard worked fine. Uninstalling and reinstalling Swiftkey fixed the problem and then Swiftkey pushed out an update that makes it pop up SUPER fast. Working great now. Everything is running faster and some things that were starting to feel a bit laggy (like swiping away emails in gmail) are fine now. The biggest benefit for me has been battery life. Under normal usage, I was typically having to plug in by around dinner time if I didn't want to be caught with a dead phone. I listen to podcasts during my commute and I consistently would be down to 84% when I get to my desk in the morning. After Lollipop, I am at about 92% all week. Yesterday, I got 15 hours of battery before I got down to 15% and with Battery Saver mode on, I ran a full 17 hours before I went to bed and plugged it in. I can make it through a full day of normal use now! All is not totally rosy though. I love the new look overall, but the new Google Calendar layout sucks if you are double booked or are viewing multiple calendars that have overlapping events because they don't overlap anymore. Meetings that start at the same time are one after the other and it is unclear how Calendar decides which to show first. Longer meetings aren't physically larger than short ones so you don't get the visual cues. Ugh. Give me my ugly but useful old calendar back. While the rolodex card type of interface for recent apps and web pages looks cool, the older interface made it easier to find a specific app that you want to go back to. Now, there just seems to be more swiping to get the one you want into focus so you can pick it. I think you could see more apps on screen at one time in the old interface. Unlocking the phone requires an additional swipe now but that might be because I have enabled viewing of notifications on my lock screen. Even where there are no notifications, you have to swipe up once just to get the grid up to enter my lock pattern. In Kitkat, the grid is there as soon as you hit the power button. Other than some very minor gripes, Lollipop has been outstanding. Nice work, Google. #lollipopupdate
G+_Tony Kwok
Just realized that I was mistaken about Google Calendar. I was using the LIST view and thinking it was the DAY view.
