This might be a dumb question: What is the point of switching phones to USB-C if they're not going to use the full 3.1 spec?

While I agree that they should be using 3.1, I prefer having USB-C even if it's only 2.0. The reversible design is awesome and its much more sturdy. Micro USB always gets so flimsy or bent after a bit.

Faster charging.

USB C allows for 20 volts and 5 amps (slightly variable) compared to 5 volts and 1 - 2 amps.  This standard is broader than Quick Charge.
