G+_Bryce Bolling
So, is the new Hangouts app supposed to be the long rumoured Google Babel that was meant to unify all Google chat programs into one? If that is the case, why do we still have hangouts within the Google+ app that is different from the Hangout app? Why do we still have the Messenger app? It seems the only thing that happened is that Google talk was updated with more bells and whistles, and a paint job, but there are still other, competing Google messaging apps. G+_Piotr “Spaceman” Butkie
Yeah I'm confused too... But the new app does work well, so I'ma just ignore the others till El Goog sweeps them under the rug.
G+_Richard Tan
We need a new Google+ update to get rid of it. The messenger app comes with the Google+ app so we have to wait for that to be pushed out. However I am a bit disappointed with it. Can't be installed on my Nexus 10, it forgot all my previous Talk and Google+ conversation and also it does not seem to tie to your SMS, where in the keynote they said it will cover it. G+_Joseph Cappellino
Richard Tan Matias Duarte posted that the tablet version is having technical difficulties and will be released shortly. Also, I don't remember the keynote saying SMS would be supported.
G+_Richard Tan
I Remember they show a grid of 9 squares. I am sure text was there... Or was that android and iOS... Anyway it is probably coming as it does ask you to verify your number.
G+_Roy Delgado
Thanks for the info on the tablet version. I had not seen that. It's all over today that SMS support is going to be added "very soon". I think the fact that the app allows you to Confirm your Phone Number, and even specifically mentions tying in a Google Voice number if you have one, shows it is close. My best guess was it wasn't quite ready for I/O, but they needed to use the big stage to roll it out. So they put out what they have, and will update & iterate until it's exactly what they want. G+_Ben Hills
It will replace G+ Messenger 'soon' and I am very much looking forward to that. So far though, I like it a lot and it works just fine on my Nexus 7.
