G+_Dan Stamey
So, I am up for a new phone. I have the Galaxy Nexus and love it. My last few phones have all had vanilla Android. I am tempted by the HTC One, however the Sense is posing a question. I have used it on the Sensation and it wasn't bad, however the new version looks a bit more obtrusive. The Nexus 4 is intriguing but is it a worthwhile jump over the GNex? I cannot stand TouchWiz so the G4 is out. Anyone have any hands on with the Nexus 4 and the GNex that could give any comments about comparing the two?
G+_Chandler Gonzales
How do you feel about rooting and ROMing?
G+_Craig Sotelo
I'm in the same boat as you but I think I'm gonna go with the Nexus 4 along with switching to t - mobile from Verizon
G+_Craig Sotelo
I never like sense since the Evo I just love vanilla Android too much ?
G+_Robert Carlos
If you're into launchers, you can get past touchwiz or sense. The HTC hardware is unbelievable though.
G+_Craig Sotelo
But you still have it baked into the phone only rooting and installing rom would completely remove it?
G+_Adam Geerdes
So just flash a different ROM, one without sense/touchwhiz/whatever.
G+_Dan Stamey
I am completely fine with rooting and ROMing. Even with vanilla I still use Apex Launcher. Some of the tweaks it allows you to do I like while still being pretty much stock. I agree with Craig though, unless you use a completely different ROM, just using a launcher is not as resource efficient. In the background there will always be some Sense or TouchWiz service running. Craig, I am currently with T-Mobile and have been for a number of years. They have good customer service and good reception in my area. Once the LTE rolls out here it will be even better.Another enticing factor for the Nexus is the price. Hmmm decisions decisions. G+_Nick Webster
The HTC One is the better phone in hardware but the N4 is better in software. If you are happy with the HTC One buy it, just make sure to keep in mind that you 80% won't get any updates, they might say they will update it but don't believe them. If you get a Nexus 4 you will be using outdated hardware but the software will be cutting edge for quite a while. So you can choose, better hardware and non-updating software or better software but average hardware.
G+_Robert Hendrix
The HTC One is a nice peice of hardware especially if the photos they promise comes through with the 4MP multi cam lenses. Thing is especially if you have been a vanilla android user, I don't think Sense or Touchwiz would be an issue I think it ould be the update schedules. So if you need something now, I'd go with the Nexus 4, but otherwise I'd wait until at least I/O announcements or in the fall when they will at the latest announce any new Nexus phone.
