Quick thoughts on Facebook Home

I see Facebook home as a direct challenge to what Google plus has been doing on mobile than anything else. Think about the permission a launcher has Facebook wants to collect more information from you while you interact with the launcher. In fact the next thing I expect them to release is companion apps built into the Launcher, which was something that Go Launcher tried to do. Remember that a launcher is sand-boxed from your other apps so its in Facebook's best interest to come out with a music app, camera app, a messaging app a contacts app all built into the launcher so that they can get their signals from you.

Will we see ads on the phone? I think eventually, but they will be ads you want to see. Think about that band you like wouldn't it be cool to have their cover art or show schedule on your lockscreen. What if you received special offers via the launcher that you access with one click.

The question is who is going to use this Launcher, my sons definitely will, I could see him asking me for the HTC first as well, becuase his needs are really simple, he wants a phone to connect to facebook, to message his friends, listen to music and take pictures. He is also going off to college soon so Facebook definitely wants him and his potential spending power to stay with them.

At the end of the day I think that this was a good launch for Facebook and i'll give them a B+ so far. I think Facebook Home has enough hooks to make an impact and ultimately be successful for them. What do you think?

I wish facebook and g+ were competitors. All of the people I really know are on FB, G+ is for following interesting people and has pretty much taken the place of forums.

Everyone I want to IM, call message, email (personally) or call are on Facebook. As far as I'm concerned they've got communication locked down. I wish my friends would switch but they won't. ?
