G+_Marlon Thompson
So my phone company is trying to get rid of old stock, and is selling the Galaxy Nexus prepaid, unlocked for just over $100US, and I am seriously thinking of buying it as a second phone or for my son. Am I crazy or does it just makes sense.
G+_Sidharth Dassani
Seems like great value if your provider is not Verizon . They don't provide timely updates to software
G+_Marlon Thompson
No we get all our updates in my country straight from the source. For example we get updates for Samsung products 2 months or more before it comes to the states and our Phone company doesn't install any of their crapware on our phones

G+_Dale Dubnyk
David Essex not when it comes to the Verizon galaxy Nexus.
G+_Happy Fuzzy
I think you're missing what is being said, Dale Dubnyk . Nexus Prepaid/Unlocked.. If THAT is being only updated by Verizon, one can simply replace the (huh?) Verizon rom with the Nexus Rom
G+_Dale Dubnyk
The verizon CDMA nexus phone is a completely different phone from the GSM galaxy nexus. You can't just go put a GSM ROM on it.
G+_Erik Huntoon
Dale Dubnyk I have a Verizon GNex running a very stock version of Android 4.3 right now and it is working excellently. There are plenty of ROMs out there for the Verizon GNex that have stripped out the Verizon bloat and restrictions. My phone even has Google Wallet working which Verizon 'blocks'. I love this phone even though it's on Verizon, but I did have to put some work in to it to get out of their leash so to speak. Regardless, this poster clearly isn't a Vzw customer so it's a moot issue. Marlon Thompson I'd recommend the phone overall as a secondary device. It's a couple years old but still a work horse in my opinion.
G+_Dale Dubnyk
Erik Huntoon yes i agree, custom ROMS are always an option. But if he doesn't go that route the updates don't come straight from Google was all i was saying.
G+_Lucas Nichols
I wonder if it's a refurbished?
G+_Marlon Thompson
So apparently we have some huge Android fans here, my adventure ended prematurely as all stocks have finished, and it wasn't refurbished Lucas Nichols
G+_George Fromtulsa
It is a fine phone. Passed mine to daughter and gave one to her husband. Found extended life Samsung brand batteries on eBay from seller in Korea. 4.3 probably improves battery. But there's much you can do yourself. Turn off GPS, unless you need it. I rooted and installed AdAway: keeps Apps from phoning home for ads. Same benefit from paying for Apps without ads. I do that for any with option since I'm blocking ads but do want to compensate developers. Turn off constant sync. You can summon your email when you have time. Much battery savings. In Settings>Mobile Data you'll see a list of apps and their data use. Long press. Turn OFF background data! Last tip. Lose the live wallpaper. Lose the bright wallpaper. Do a Google image search and find a deep black, nothing else. The AMOLED screen won't burn battery displaying black, and does with anything else.?
