G+_Marlon Thompson
What would it take to get you to switch your launcher In the wake of Aviate being bought by Yahoo I am seeing a lot of Android "power" users pronouncing the death of Aviate, even though we were all intrigued by the concept a few months ago. We have the nexus camp now declaring "GEL for life" and on the other end we have the Nova and Apex launcher crowd (truth be told I am using GEL but I loves me my Nova). Android has gotten so good that we power users are finding ourselves more and more sticking to some core apps and we seem hesitant (sometimes correctly, am I right Facebook Home) to switch to something different. So what would it take for you to switch your launcher.
G+_Cass Morrison
Interesting question. In part I think it would have to be an OEM that I was forced to try. I'm getting an 8.3 Tab Pro so I'll give the card style launcher a shot...before going back to Apex :)
G+_Tim Thomas
Personally, I want my phone to look different from everybody else and be functional. I have tried them all. I am currently using Aviate and love it. Granted, I wish it allowed for a few more customization of the settings, but the design is fine, I love how different it looks. I know it will only get better. I use GEL on my tablet and it is great. I still have Nova installed if I feel really creative. I think most launchers are just "stock with extras". If something comes I out that makes my phone unique, I will try that too.
G+_Garry McCaw
I recently switched from ADW.Launcher to NOVA to try for a while. I have also used THEMER for a while (which is rather good imo) but I just prefer the greater control I get with the other launchers. ? That's the beauty of Android.... customisation.... so don't restrict yourself people try something new now and again.
G+_Jeff Larkin
It took Aviate to get me to switch my launcher. I had been using ADW in place of TouchWiz on my SGS4. Aviate is novel, but not just for the sake of being novel. The interface is very clean and personal, but I'm no more than two swipes from the right to get to all of the apps. It's far from perfect and I'm hoping Yahoo will give the team enough resources to iterate quickly, but I find the simplicity of it really nice. What would it take to get me to switch again? Maybe something that interfaces directly into my brain so that it truly knows what I'm looking for.
G+_Mark Scholes
Migration of my settings from the old one
G+_Marlon Thompson
Mark Scholes you hit an important point, power users work hard to get their setup and workflow down and wouldn't mind extra features but it can't upset that balance
G+_shamara Lewis
I use Aviate and haven't switched since i started using it. but I have tried just about all of them.
G+_Julie Wills
Features that I want, and the ability to import from my current launcher. And what I don't want is a UI that's second guessing what I want. I want predictability. I know where I've put things in my home screens because I put them there for a reason. Things that try to adapt just make it harder to find what I want because (by definition) they don't stay in the same place. Aviate definitely has a market, but I'm not in it. G+_Denny Weinmann
I'd like a NOVA/Action launcher hybrid. I like Nova for the stock look and feel, but with added features such as guestures, but I keep going back to Action for the 'shades' and 'covers'. I wish I could get shades and covers in other launchers. It is really slick. If you haven't tried it, do it now.
G+_Julie Wills
Denny Weinmann Agreed. I've been using Nova for years, and have bought Action Launcher for its features, but haven't yet got round to setting it up to work to its strengths and my preferences. G+_Cass Morrison
I'm using Apex (one screen in tablet mode) and glovebox. press the home button to call up the dialer. Perfect for me.
G+_Chintan Shah
The main problem of all this launchers like Aviate, Themer etc is that they are the biggest battery hog. What good is the customization if we cannot use it after a dead battery?
