G+_Marlon Thompson
The real cost of being an early adopter in the Caribbean I have been thinking about writing a post about what its like to purchase tech in the Caribbean, and for some reason this article popped into my Google Now feed (remind me to tell you my conspiracy theory that Google is listening to my day to day conversations through my phone). http://mybroadband.co.za/news/smartphones/98404-importers-vs-importing-one-mans-quest-for-a-nexus-5-in-south-africa.html Many of the details in this article resonate with me. I use a vpn, I have an American mailbox for packages and magazines, I have an American credit card and a Google email address that is listed to an american address, and of course an Amazon prime account. Shipping costs and duties hit me hard but it still quicker and cheaper than trying to buy it here where I live in Trinidad. One positive thing for those from the US if you do come down here, as of now Google Play and the Chromecast (unlike Amazon and Netflix) does not serve you content based on your ip address so I am able to stream to my chromecast. http://mybroadband.co.za/news/smartphones/98404-importers-vs-importing-one-mans-quest-for-a-nexus-5-in-south-africa.html
