G+_Marlon Thompson
Sometimes nexus devices really suck I just spent a couple of frustrating hours trying to transfer some music files to a nexus 5. I had the files on my computer and on another nexus device, So my first choice was just to plug in a usb cord and transfer the files over from my windows computer. Simple right, except the computer would not recognise the phone, I got the notification on the phone that is was connected via mtp but nothing on the computer. Off I went to the forums, which said update driver, uninstall driver, do this do that. I tried everything, still didn't work. So I decided to try to send it via Android beam, from device to device, that was a waste, then I dug around the wifi settings until I found wifi direct but I then had to install a 3rd party app since Nexus devices don't have a file explorer and still there were issues, Its finally being transferred very slowly off of bluetooth.. Now I could have uploaded them to Google Drive or dropbox and then download to the other device but the point was I just wanted to transfer the blasted files locally. You know who has solved this problem, Samsung and Apple. For all the criticism labelled at Samsung I have used S beam which connects the devices via NFC and then the files are transferred via Wi Fi Direct. I have also used apple's airdrop (which is just their name for wifi direct) and its just as easy. Google needs to follow Samsung's lead and allow Android bean to use wifi direct
G+_Debbie Wright
Have you tried AirDroid? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid

G+_Randy J
So you opened up Windows Explorer and the Nexus did not appear? That's odd...my Nexus 7 does and I can add/remove files easily.
G+_Marlon Thompson
Randy J and the funny thing is my nexus 7 is recognised, sometimes its just frustrating
G+_Randy J
Strange that one and not the other would be recognized...I can't understand why, but I blame Windows...lol.
G+_Debbie Wright
Dana Snell I just tried AirDroid on my Nexus 7 running KitKat 4.4.2 and it worked fine. I was able to transfer photos from my laptop to the Nexus 7. I wonder if specific devices have the issue.

G+_Marlon Thompson
Ryan R. and Debbie Wright thanks for the suggestions but my point is also that I shouldn't have to rely on a 3rd party app. and I'm not the first person for who the USB connection gets wonky just do a google search. G+_Ahmad Asraf “Troll” Has
Make sure you don't have USB debugging enabled for cable transfer via MTP
G+_Marlon Thompson
Ahmad Asraf Hashim nope checked all of that I believe it's a conflict caused by the USB software as we have Samsung devices and the computer initially identifies the device as a nexus 5 and then it sees it as a Samsung device. Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers are not working. I'll figure it out but it's not something I wanted to deal with the night before an early morning flight and I just wanted to transfer some tunes to listen to keep me occupied. Fortunately I have last night's episode of AAA to keep me company :)?

G+_Debbie Wright
Marlon Thompson Sorry about your issue. I don't own a Nexus 5 (still rockin' a GS3 running Cyanogenmod) so I'll take your word about this not being an isolated case. I suggested AirDroid because you were listing all the options you had tried that had not worked well for you. I just added one to your list that might. Is your N5 still under warranty or is it insured? Maybe it's a physical problem and you can get it replaced.
G+_Marlon Thompson
Debbie Wright thanks for the suggestion I hope you don't think I was brushing you off I wrote this post late in the night while I was packing for a business trip so I was just feeling tired and ranty .I know the community would have given suggestions that I will try out over the weekend when I'm back home
G+_Debbie Wright
Marlon Thompson No problem. I understand how frustrating can be when the technology we love seems to turn against us. ;-) Have a good trip!
