Motorola has now joined HTC and jumped back on the SD card bandwagon, interesting

I personally dislike the SD cards.  I had only been using them to store my multitude of Nandroid backups.  Now that I have a Nexus 5, I'll probably only keep one backup at a time.

That being said, I understand the allure of having one, I just never really found it useful, now that everything is in the cloud.

I agree that it's cheaper per GB for an SD card, but the usability of it is clunky, and makes the phone more expensive to design and produce.  Also, it takes up space that could go to other things like new sensors or more battery.

For example, on my S4 with the stock ROM, I could save my pictures to the SD card.  Great...until I use burst mode.  The I/O of SD Cards still are not as fast as the internal SSD.  When it comes time for me to backup my pictures, I now have to look in two different places.  It even shows up in two different albums in the Gallery.

Also, with the existence of SD Cards, it becomes more of a pain for developers.  There are now two places to store things, which involve settings, permissions, etc.

We'll be better off once the price of internal SSDs come down to more reasonable costs.

Ruel Smith - I agree to that, as well.  But, for most people, 32GB is more than enough (especially with cloud services).  Even still, more and more devices are coming with 64GB, and soon 128GB, of on board storage.

When I just bought my Nexus 5, I got the 16GB, as I couldn't justify the difference in cost.  I just don't use that much storage space.

Joseph Cappellino my problem is that there are still devices sold with as little as 8gb of storage, such as the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. My daughter's 8" Galaxy Tab has a mere 16gb and she's erasing stuff all the time. I think 32gb should be the very bottom, 64 the norm, and 128 for power users. But they drag their feet...

I won't buy a device without expandable storage at any less than 32GB internal. With a card slot, I'll go lower. I'm not worried about apps or camera photos with my external card....the external card is here I store media.

There is not wi-fi or cellular coverage everywhere yet, so until then, I want my local storage.
