G+_Marlon Thompson
While Samsung still has a huge lead, we should look at what these numbers really mean. The fact of the matter is most mobile markets are saturated and the countries that are areas for growth are china and developing nations. 2 years ago Samsung upped its marketing budget for China in an attempt to go after Huawei and Lenovo. By spending less than 20% of Samsung's marketing budget, these companies were able to hold their own. Lenovo with the acquisition of Motorola is going after the growth countries particularly in Latin America. Huawei is also pushing into these countries as well as the middle east. I do not think this the end of Samsung, far from it, however ,LG, Huawei and Lenovo are starting to play a smarter game, just look at the overwhelming positive reviews for the phones from these vendors as well as them cutting down on the overlay's of the phones and more or less delivering a close to stock experience. Originally shared by Android Police Samsung may have dipped, but it still shipped a quarter of all devices, more than twice as many as Apple. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/07/30/idc-report-huawei-smartphone-shipments-samsung-shrinking/
