G+_Marlon Thompson
Quick thoughts on the apple watch As soon as I got to work this morning one of my iPhone using colleagues said she is buying the apple watch.. I stupidly tried to ask her why, what was compelling about it (it looks great she says) and I tried to speak to her from the point of view of someone who has used the pebble and the gear live on a daily basis but I think I came off like an Android fanboy. And that's the position Apple has placed us in again. Forget all the superlatives, Apple has once again built a beautiful piece of hardware and right now the reality distortion field is in full effect. I heard no tech pundit question the price ("well its Apple so you know its premium"), no one spoke about those extra bands are accessories an added cost ("those watch bands look so great I can't wait to switch them out"). And that Apple did not make a compelling argument to the general consumer why this is an extension of your phone you need to get (no one really has, not even Google). But me saying all of these things as I said just makes me look like an Apple hater, when I am trying to be someone who actually has thought a lot about wearables. So hear is the thing by the time the Apple watch does come out We will have at least 4 or more updates of Android Wear for more functionality (2 are planned before the end of the year) we should have the second gen moto 360 and about 5 Samsung watches ( they have already made 6 watches in one year so that is not a joke) and a ton more Android wear watches from other manufacturers. Developers by that time should also have fully grasped what can be done with Android Wear and we should see more compelling apps. With that in mind lets pick up this conversation next year and then we will really see the value of wearables.
G+_David Pancake
The problem is Google and it's oem partners do a terrible job of marketing any of Android Wears features. We know apple is a brilliant marketer. ?
G+_Jennifer Kokoski
Apple is also helped a lot by the media bias in the tech world.? you will always have people so seduced by brand they'll buy anything. I met a girl last week who said all Apple needed to do was introduce a printer and she'd buy it. What's next? Electric shavers by Apple. smh
G+_Marlon Thompson
David Pancake I agree but tbh if Samsung had said in their Keynote "you can send your heartbeat", they would be ridiculed and it would be called a gimmick. Apple on the other hand could get away with that and the tech journalist said, its kind of cool. I do like the health information gathered by the watch (that could easily be done on Android Wear) And I have been frustrated that my gear live is collecting my heart rate and how many steps I have taken and possibly more and I can't do anything with that info because its just stuck on the watch
