G+_Marlon Thompson
I love this quote from Ben Thompson "a company that prioritizes price will only ever attract customers who care primarily about price, and will have no choice but to race to the bottom. On the other hand, a company that prioritizes the product — even if it costs more — will attract customers who care about the experience of the product, and in the long run be able to charge a premium." The device he was talking about was of course the iPhone but I bring this up to apply it to the HTC 10. They released their new phone today and its premium looking, it seems to have just the amount of right bells and whistles and its even include support for airplay for those people who want to use it with their other premium devices. Now HTC is charging $699 for the 32gb which may seem high when compared to the Nexus, Robin and Moto phones, and aren't we in the age where android phones are good enough at $300 - $500 ? Well HTC sees an opportunity to buck that trend and offer a premium experience on Android. Will it work,? Maybe but they are so far in the whole they have to take that chance. Many people in general avoid risk so when the see HTC do something like this their internal alarm bells go off. I instead believe that HTC has a strong idea how much of these phones they should sell (I would guess around 5-6 million) and they are going for it. So swing for the fences HTC.
