G+_Marlon Thompson
My thoughts on the pixel since I find Jason Howell and the gang seem to be hedging a bit. If you have the money and want this phone ...buy it. Don't get bogged down in talk about the Google assistant is not that great because sometimes its awesome and sometimes its not but its still is THE BEST AI ASSISTANT ON THE MARKET. Google has spent years researching AI and have but tons of money into it and it shows. Cortana and Siri are not in the same class. Is it perfect .. no, will it get better over time... yes. Is it a reason to not buy this phone...IT IS UP TO YOU. If you have the 5x or 6p should you upgrade? . If you have the 5x...definitely, if you have the 6p ...its up to you. Here is the thing this years version of every mid range to flagship android phone is slightly better than last years model (well except the Note 7 since it ...you know) and most of last year's model can easily give you what you want for another year or more.. And guess what the pixel 2 will be better than the pixel. So again to my first point if you want it BUY IT. stop reading the reviews, Its a great phone with a fantastic camera, excellent software, great build, adequate speakers (don't let the its not as loud as the 6p crowd get you down, it isn't as loud, its still good enough and not a deal breaker) It will be the only android flagship phone on the market guaranteed. to get 2 years of updates. Its is also the only flagship phone where 2 models were produced at the same time and the only difference was the screen size , resolution and battery size. The experience of using both phones is the same. And I know a lot of people were hoping that was so last year given the issues with the 5x https://twitter.com/jasonhowell/status/700807190496423936 So to recap, great phone, no complaints so far and tbh I don't think about the possibilities of it slowing down in the future or other issues like that since I am using it now. If you want it you have the money buy it . If you don't have the money and still want it..wait a few months it will go down in price I expect in a few months or even buy it when the pixel 2 comes out since Google seems to be all in to this Pixel and hardware thing since that division doubled their earnings last quarter. https://twitter.com/jasonhowell/status/700807190496423936
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Jason Howell?, I agree with Marlon Thompson?. If you have a 5X, you need to upgrade. I had the 6P, and I chose to upgrade for the smaller screen. I, and my wife, have been extremely happy with the upgrades. You will be, too. G+_Nick Coakley
While I'm definitely on board with the pixel and will probably try and get one by the end of the year, my 5x is working really well now. I can't dispute it's had its problems though and Google damned it by being too slow on getting it up to speed. It got a bad reputation very quickly which is a shame as on project fi it's a really good deal.
G+_Richard Cohen
I picked up a Nexus 5X early in the summer for around US$265, as a placeholder before the new Nexus^WPixel phones came, and I've actually been really happy with it - slightly small, cheap, plasticky, reliable, up-to-date... I'm doubt I'll be buying a Pixel - or any phone - for that sort of price any time soon, unless there's something really special about it
G+_Sean McElroy
I agree, great phone by Google. Definitely recommend.
G+_Tim Pickering
I have had my 5X for 1 yr, and it works perfectly for me. I picked another one just recently from Fi for $199 as a back up.
G+_Derek McAllister
I've had my Nexus 5X for about a year without any complaints. My wife had an issue with hers where it suddenly started boot looping. Love the no hassle replacement by Google. Regarding the Pixel phones. I've been a bit annoyed that everyone is focusing on the price being higher than the Nexus devices. It's not a Nexus! The Nexus line was not intended to be a money maker, it was designed to be a reference device for developers. These aren't designed to be developer focused, they are aimed at the everyday consumer with the intent to make a profit. Why is it alright for Apple to make a ton of money off a phone but Google can't? Utterly ridiculous if you ask me! Review the phone for what it is, not who's name is on it... G+_L I
Derek McAllister I'd argue that the Nexus 6 and 6p were designed to be a money maker before Google decided to go all in with the name change. They weren't cheap.
G+_Derek McAllister
Perhaps they were, maybe they were testing the waters with those prices...
G+_Ryan Newell (Miaohan)
Why all the rage about having to upgrade? I have a Nexus 5 and if the Pixel was Nexus price I would upgrade. Hope next time they come out with a mid range as well as a high end phone. I'll be rocking this 5 for 1 more year. Bought this three years ago for CAD$299 and would love a larger display, but the only larger Google option is CAD$1049. No thanks
