G+_BrightSilence
Shannon Morse mentioned in another comment that Coding 101 isn't meant to take the place of your college classes. But I think that is a good thing. I like that the bar is low enough for pretty much anyone to jump on. These first two episodes won't scare anyone with an interest in coding away. It's a simple start that will get anyone to actually work with code. I think there is a huge gap between people interested in programming and those with a college education in that field. You guys fill that gap perfectly. I'm not a very experienced coder, but I've done my fair share of programming in a variety of different languages, so for me this is still too basic. But I'd love to come back here and help people with questions from time to time. The more challenging questions will probably already be a learning experience for me as well. I hope this community will grow into a collaborative place of learning. May I suggest pointing people here primarily? Twitter really isn't a great place to collaborate. Keep up the good work. I'll be checking in from time to time to see what's going on!
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
That's EXACTLY that we're trying to do. -- When I first started tooling around with the idea of a programming show, I cut up my C++ lesson plan into "episodes" - the end result was that there were over 100 episodes just to get through basic programming. We obviously can't do that in 6 weeks. So... bringing Shannon Morse on board, we decided that we weren't going to "teach" programming in the traditional sense. Rather, we would bring out some of the more interesting programming concepts, get people to think of the world in terms of problems that could be broken down into a programming language, and give people just enough code knowledge to start poking around on their own. At the end of the modules, people won't know how to program, but they will know how to tinker with code. Also... the later version of the show was FAR more entertaining than the former...
