G+_Skip In Perth
hi all, banging my head trying to remember .... which on one of the shows had someone saying "he" found the best way to learned new computer language was to do same selected listed of tasks (about 10?) in each new language you were learning. Any clues who said that and what the tasks were?
G+_mike klaene
Skip - my approach to learning a new language has been first to familiarize myself with some of the constructs - an expanded glorified version of "Hello World" helps. Then I try to write a useful utility program that employs both file operations and user interface interactions. My favorite utility is one that I have been using since the mid 70s is one to read in a file and optionally display it with a character line and up-down hex of octal. This comes from the old IBM mainframe 'DEBE' and 'DITTO' utilities. The main thought is to have some fun while learning the new language, IDE and debugger.
