G+_Tim Warnock (spiderdog1
Originally shared by Michael Kizer Hey All About Android, here's another Google Now "How'd they do that?" segment. I was sitting outside reading a Kindle book on my Nexus 7, when my daughter asked to watch some TV. I put the tablet down and went inside the house. I turned on the TV and selected a prerecorded show on the TiVo (in this case Doc McStuffins). I then went back outside, read a bit more, then went back to the home screen on the tablet (I have the Google Now widget there). I noticed the Doc McStuffins card and could not figure out how it determined to put this card up. Some sort of link between TiVo and Google that I'm unaware of? The only other time I've seen TV cards is when I have previously searched for show info (I had Jeopardy! cards showing up for weeks after searching for something related to that show). Any clues on how Google Now is divining this type of information?
G+_Roy Delgado
Now has a built in listening feature for TV cards. It's been around for a while. http://www.droid-life.com/2013/06/26/google-nows-new-tv-info-feature-is-pretty-awesome/
G+_Michael Kizer
Yeah, but my tablet was outside, out of earshot of the TV. Unless the Chromecast I have connected to the TV has some kind of stealth listening capabilities I don't know about. ;-)
G+_Rob Grefsrud
Or was your phone or some other device within earshot?
G+_Michael Kizer
Nope, I thought about that too. My phone was on a charger in a different room. I'll have to try some experiments to see if I can get it happen again.
G+_Rob Grefsrud
Your Nexus 7 must have some really good "ears"
