G+_Ari Nugroho
Merry Christmas everyone. I have a quick question. My daughter revived an android tablet(inexpensive) for Christmas and I was wondering is there a way I can control what she can do with the internet ex. G+_Lucas Nichols
Hard to answer this one. You are probably in the wrong community. And I would suggest you spend some time searching Google for the answer. Not all androids are created equally. You will need to know the brand and model number of your tablet as well as the android version that it's running on.
G+_Gregory Benn
Checkout kidoz in the play store.
G+_Ben Sullivan
Yes, there are tools I've briefly seen mentioned. Sorry I don't recall their names, but they do exist. Like has been mentioned, best to start with some Googling. Of course of she's smart enough to root all bets are off ;) Controlling the web browser may be trickiest. Could look at router-based solutions there. My little girl isn't even one yet, but I'm already worried about this!
G+_Feiris Wheel (Pat)
Yeah, for every way to keep someone from doing something we put on technology, they will find 5 ways around it.
G+_J. Steven
I use screen time on my kids tablet. Mainly it sets time limits on specific apps, and has a remote app on my nexus 7 that shows me the amount of time that she spends in each app.
G+_todd zimmerman
It kinda depends upon the age/skilled/mature your daughter is. That is, a teen will probably have the skill (or have friends with the skills) to circumvent any measures you might put in place. A youngster might not have the skill, but kids are pretty resourceful. Yes, there things you can do (opendns, router controls etc, but it depends upon how tech savvy you are), but I suggest building a level of trust with you kid first. First off, set limits of when the device can be used, and for what purposes. This might mean that you have take custody of the device, the release it for use. (That is, the kid isn't up all night watching netflix under the covers past 10pm). Good behavior (good grades?) = more device time. Discuss with the kid the ground rules of what apps/sites can be used and that the device is subject to regular inspection. Any violations result in grounding of the device. The point is that you need to be up front about what your expectations are for your kid's use of the device. The worse thing could be is that the kid hides the device from you and you don't know how its being used. At the start, the kid should not have free range on the device - start with some level use (eg, 2hrs in the afternoon or something). If you don't have any rules initially established, you're gonna have an uphill battle trying to establish rules later on.?
G+_tobby
If the tablet has Android 4.3 (or higher), you can create a restricted profile. https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/3175031?hl=en
G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
This was discussed on last weekend's Tech Guy. I don't remember which day it was, but have a look at both the last two episodes at techguylabs.com.

G+_todd zimmerman
shamara Lewis I can see that you could use AppLock to restrict the Facebook app, but are you going to lock down the browser apps too (to prevent access to FB via web)? Just wondering
