G+_Robert T
I wanted to try out Google Assistant before it comes to my Nvidia Shield, so I installed Allo. One thing I wanted to know is if it can control my smart devices. In a case if brutal honesty or maybe over the top helpfulness, Google Assistant replied that I should buy a device with Alexa instead.
G+_Chris Holt
Google assistant is in Google Home, but they aren't the same thing. You should be able to use IFTTT to do some smart device control, but otherwise, you would use the native apps.
G+_Jared Gauthier
Assistant within Allo is separate from Pixel and Home. If it's built into the Shield, smart devices can be controlled.
G+_Jeff Larkin
Chris Holt yes, I know all of this, but my expectation was that Google Assistant would point to this sort of information rather than pointing to a competing product.

G+_Javier Rodriguez
it should have sent you here. madeby.google.com - Made by Google but that response is much funnier
G+_Jeff Larkin
javier rodriguez? agreed, that's what I would have expected. At least they can't get in trouble for favoring their own products.
G+_Jared Gauthier
Jeff Larkin if it doesn't have a natural response it will just make a Google search. If you made that same search manually Alexa will probably be the first result. Considering you asked "can you", you'd think it would have a natural response ready. G+_Jared Gauthier
Yup, first result. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/HpkZwbBV23_HmuUBslKskUGtJSrDmQAoxj-pl2UCXelMccPywvtuv8oPeNs8EIsaiklIf5I9KYgUmcW6HkTymA3uXvEbft-QRHyl=s0
G+_Chris Holt
So, it was really the right thing to do. Keep this in mind for the next Google lawsuit. Though now that I can change my Echo keyword to "Computer", I may be biased.
