AAA fans and hosts. Does anyone know of a free way to stream music from your PC to your Android over cell data? I used to use AudioGalaxy for this and it was great but now that they are going to stop the service since Dropbox bought them I'm looking for an alternative.

I know that Subsonic can do the same but after a set amount of time you have to "donate" to keep the streaming from your own server. I'm fine with an actual donation but to force you after a set amount of time and still call it a donation just makes me not want to give up my $$

I would go with Google Music like the rest of the world but my music collection is over their limit and I do not want to pick and choose.

I've tried many other free ones but they were either very slow to load each track or the interface was horrid. Some didn't even let you do something as simple as shuffle all your music tracks (you had to create playlists... which I never do)

Speaking of playlists, it would be nice if the app did something like AudioGalaxy did and let you create a list on the fly by just choosing the option to play more songs like the one you are currently listening to (though I really don't need this feature). Oh and if it had an option to switch tracks while the screen was off by holding the volume keys that'd be nice but again, not necessary.

Edit / TL:DR:

I found how to stream for free on any Android Device from this XDA link:

Along with the desktop software of course

It's not stupid but thanks for starting your opinion by calling the idea stupid.

I do not want to have to pick and choose what tracks I put on my Google Music selection. If you read what I said above then you know I do not make playlists so I do not want to spend time on choosing what tracks to make available online.

I just want my entire library since I spend enough time making sure the metadata is exactly how I like it. It's not stupid to want this.

Anyone else have a suggestion rather then just calling what I'm asking for stupid??

One, just don't acknowledge people who can't give constructive information.  As someone who bought a lot of music growing up and listen to stuff from the 50's to this weeks releases, it adds up.  So I get it, though I'll admit I manage them on my laptop and use MediaMonkey to do the tagging, then port the playlists off into my devices, certain playlists I don't want to listen to in my car, and others I don't want on my tablet playing in my office.

To answer your question, check out Plex.  It is a monthly fee if you get the Plexpass but it works great with mobile devices.  Know a few people who have it setup so they can get to their home network videos and photos on top of music on their tablet PLUS one who uses it with a Roku box to stream movies.

I don't need it to be streaming online. That's not how AudioGalaxy worked either. NVM you don't understand the question

Thanks Robert Hendrix , I just didn't like how he started by saying it's stupid. Anyway, I tried Plex but you can't shuffle all songs on there, you have to pick an artist and an album before you can pick the songs... unless I'm missing something. AudioGalaxy just had it all so I was disappointed when they closed shop. Hopefully it's temporary.

Bradley Chasse I've got about 22,000 tracks but its because I buy full albums not a track here or there but really have a song here or there from each that I like and swap in and out.  Paul Werner has the want to be able to access and listen to any of them depending on his mood without loading up a computer and swapping them out.  It is all preference.  I know a few people who are looking at Amazon MP3 as their primary because they have bought CD's and MP3's from them over the years and with this Autorip, it has added a large collection.  So really just need to figure out what music you want to have access to and your situation to determine best for you.

Oh and I looked into AjaXplorer and that would take some learning on how to set up on the PC end since I don't use Linux.

I'll see what I can figure out with this while looking around for a possible solution without as much setup. I don't mind running a desktop app since that's how AudioGalaxy did it. Thanks again Santos Cardona

Ok, I may be a niche case here but I FINALLY figure this out with a littlge Google-Fu.

So I found this app named ZumoCast (http://goo.gl/VASFv) that looked like it had exactly what I wanted for a music app. The only issue is that it's owned by Motoroloa and will only work on their phones.

Searching on Google I came across this XDA post (http://goo.gl/0fF0I) which has the same .apk but patched so it will work on all phones. I installed the Desktop app and it's currently indexing all my songs with all the metadata I have for each track (already up to about 1000 of the 23,000 plus at only about 5 minutes into this!!)

I have already tested on WiFi and HSPA+ (along with 3G) and it can play all my tracks on shuffle or let me select what I want depending on my mood at the time. Only thing that happens is while on cell data it takes a slight bit longer to change between tracks but that's expected.

Thanks for the suggestions though but I hope this post helps out someone else that is bummed over the AudioGalaxy buyout

Well for Plex I just use it for my video because I obviously play videos one by one by selecting what I want to watch. Since I didn't find a way to shuffle songs like a normal music service on Plex, I do not use it as such.

To answer your question about cost though, Plex on the desktop is free while it's $4.99 for phones & $.99 for Google TV (unless you have one where it came preinstalled). I just wanted to point out that this wasn't the deciding factor as Plex would have been fine if the music section of the app wasn't so limited.

Google Music is free for 20,000 tracks and has great music controls when playing back your music but I didn't want to be limited when my library is larger. The only way to have more than 20,000 tracks is to purchase music on the Play Store as it doesn't count towards the limit but I am not going to repurchase music.

Paul Werner I use to use Orb back in the day on my windows mobile phone and PC. I don't anymore because I no longer leave my desktop running. However I just checked orb.com and the Orb Live app in the play store and it looks like they are still going strong. While the pc program is free the android app is $10. However you may want to just access your data through your mobile web browser and save the $10. Try setting your browser identification to that of an iPhone view because at one point they had a sweet looking mobile site designed to look like a iOS app without having to deal with iTunes. Kinda like Google did when they couldn't get Google Music into iTunes. If you give it a whirl let us know how it's working these days.
