G+_JD Fuller
I know I may catch fire for this question but here it goes.... Can I install CM 9 on a device where the bootloader is still locked? I have never run in to the problem of not being able to unlock a bootloader. Sony Xperia R800x verizon. I have tried to unlock it using Xperia flasher but I keep getting an Remote: OEM Failure Any suggestions are appreciated
G+_Tim Davis
Short answer: no, you need an unlocked bootloader to flash CM9, as it has a custom boot image. As for suggestions on how to unlock the bootloader, I've never messed with Sony phones, so can't help you there.
G+_Jacob “Jake” Bowen
Supposedly it can be done because the make CM9 for the R800x I think I am missing some little step in unlocking the bootloader that I can't figure out. This always happens to me one way or another when I am trying to flash CM on a new phone......
G+_Tim Davis
Right, but until the bootloader is unlocked, you won't be able to.
G+_Brad Whitfield
I may have this wrong, but I believe I have flashed an HTC Evo 3D with the boot loader locked. It may have just been s-on, but I want to say it was locked. I just installed recovery on it and away I went. If you want to flash a new kernel or radios and such, you must have the boot loader unlocked.
G+_Tim Davis
Brad Whitfield right, technically the bootloader only prevents a new, unsigned boot image from being loaded. CM cones with its own kernel and boot image, iirc.
