G+_Glenn Ford
Odd question: many months ago when Hangouts updated to integrate Google Voice integration, many outlets (including our beloved AAA podcast) recommended keeping the original Voice app installed on the device. So...I've kept it on mine. Is this still the case? Can I finally uninstall it? Or do I need to keep it on there to insure proper functionality with Hangouts? G+_Joseph Cappellino
You only really need it if you use Google Voice as your main number. This is the only way to let the dialer call using your GV number.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
K.P. Smith - Correct. But... I still can't open my contacts app and click on a phone number, or use Google Voice Actions (a.k.a. - "Okay, Google") to call a number. These options still go through the default dialer which can't handle Hangouts calls.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
K.P. Smith agreed. I still have to change my behavior with the new dialer. Once the features are complete, it will work from anywhere.
G+_Josh Rose
Thanks K.P. Smith and Joseph Cappellino for the great feedback here! I'm no longer a full-time Voice user (all the problems a year or so ago were plaguing me, forcing me off using it as my only number), but I'm glad to know I can at least remove the Google Voice app without any ramifications at this point. Now to just figure out why when I get a call on my normal cell number, I get ringtones for both the one I assigned to my phone and Hangouts...
