G+_Morris Eaddy
Note 3 or Nexus 5? I've had a nexus 5 since release, but just got a note 3 and I'm torn on which to move forward with. Like aspects of both. Help G+!
G+_Bill Fairchild
Nexus 5. Samsung loads up your device with bloat and nonsense. ? I say this having used neither of the devices that you have but I own a Note 2 and a Nexus 7.
G+_Chris Diaz
Bill Fairchild That's the direction I'm leaning towards Bill, but the battery on the note 3 is so much better compared to the Nexus that it's making me overthink the issue. With the Note 3 I can easily make it through a full day from wake up to go to sleep and not worry. The Nexus 5 gets me to about 3 or 4 pm comfortably, but after that I have to baby it if I want to make it til later. Talk about first world problems. G+_Bill Fairchild
That's a pretty big issue. The one thing I like about my note 2 is that I can pop the battery out if I need to.
G+_Craig Sotelo
I have always had a nexus devices and still do "Galaxy Nexus, nexus 10, nexus7" and love them. Now owning a Note3 I just cant find a reason go back to a nexus phone. Im not a samsung fan boy and the bloat along with touch wiz absolutely blows, but i was able to remove all the unwanted bloat, put nova launcher on it and Im golden. I love the s pen and use it for note taking etc. s pen, 3gb of ram, removable battery, removable micro sd card and the screen size are what separates the 2. This phone will be able to hold me over for quite a while until the note 4 comes out lol I thought at first like most that its simply too big of a phone but I got used to it really quick. Now when i hold a Nexus 5 its like holding a iphone. I dont think i can ever go back to something smaller but thats just me. It is nice to get updates from google when it happens but i can wait a week or 2 for updated roms from developers.
G+_Chris Diaz
Bill Fairchild right, the battery is really the best pro for the note 3 in my eyes.
G+_Chris Diaz
Craig Sotelo Is it possible to rom the note 3 with stock (or fairly stock android)? I've always been a bit scared to root my android phones but if there's a possibility that I can get stock android on it, I'm all for it.
G+_Craig Sotelo
Chris Diaz yes sir cyanogen mod rom but I like the use of the s pen so I just removed all the bloat and use Nova launcher.
G+_Bill Fairchild
Since installing cyanogenmod my battery life on my note 2 has drastically dropped.
G+_Leif
Use whatever you prefer, both are fantastic devices with a different approach. ?I like the Note, but that's always a personal decision.
G+_Lucas Nichols
I say go with the note 3 and root and rom if you have to. No one can say the nexus 5 is a better device. It's just all about the pure android experience. Personally I'm done with anything that says nexus on it.
G+_Chris Diaz
Lucas Nichols Interesting. Is there a specific reason you're done with the Nexus Lucas?
G+_AC
I have an N4, N7, HTC One and One mini. Currently using N4 with ART enabled and have been impressed with the battery life increase which leads me to leave the HTC products sitting on the shelf as of late. During this past holiday month I used the Note 3 for two weeks and have lots of nice things to say about the device and battery life. I also have some not so nice things to say about the software and UI. in the end the Note 3 was just too large of a phone for me and now I am back to my N4. Have you tried enabling ART on your N5 to see if that helps get you through the day?? In the end what phone I use daily comes down to comfort in the hand and battery life. The downside to Note 3 for me is its too large. The One mini is great in the hand but the SW feels sluggish and the battery life doesn't get me through the day. The One with CM11 is doing pretty well with battery , but not ready for a daily driver until the SW is optimized more for battery length.
G+_Lucas Nichols
Chris Diaz several reasons. I'm not a developer and don't need the latest android os so I can make my app work. And the new updates are always very buggy anyway. No ext sd card, non removable battery, glass phones, inferior camera and battery life...... I guess I just need a note. Lol
G+_Chris Diaz
Anthony Christensen I have not enabled ART. While I consider myself fairly techie, I've always been wary of rooting my droid device because its usually my main device and I cant afford to brick it. Also, I have a Mac and its typically harder to do. I will take a look at it though as I'm willing to take a risk (if there is one) to get better battery life. Thanks! G+_Chris Diaz
Well I've am taking my own tech card away for a week. ART enabled on the Nexus 5. Let's see how battery life does. Thanks again guys.
G+_John Buchmann
I can vouch that the Note 3 battery it's great. You'd think it would stink with such a large screen. I never needed my backup battery yet! Also of you like to draw, sketch, do art, or hand write notes, get the Note 3.

G+_AC
Chris Diaz nice! I was going to post enabling ART is not rooting but instead switching the way the N5 executes code and runs apps. I am getting a few more hours on my N4 after this switch so its worth a shot on your N5. Keep the thread posted on your results. G+_Paul Werner
If you don't mind spending a little bit extra to use this, then this will solve both the storage and battery issues you may have if you decide to go with the N5: http://goo.gl/4Ymx0d

G+_Paul Werner
I just had mine delivered earlier this week and I'm loving it. Keeps me off the crappy WiFi at my job in the cafe or using any cell data
G+_Chris Diaz
Paul Werner nice find! I may buy one of these regardless. My only issue is that if I have to carry this around to keep my Nexus juiced, I may as well just go with the note 3 and only carry one advice ha. G+_Paul Werner
Yeah, it only really works for me because I always take a backpack to work and just keep it in there. If I had to carry it along all the time then I'd probably have the same opinion. Though now I've had the N4, N5 and N7 (2012) I can't see myself choosing any other Android device other than another Nexus
