G+_Allyn Malventano
Who else wants this annoying "feature" fixed? Originally shared by Frank Bouwens Google Play Store automatic updates annoy the hell out of me. Every time, when there are automatic updates, it updates the app thats currently in the foregound. The app is killed in front of my eyes, while i'm using it. You have any idea how annoying that is?! I was just watching an episode on NetFlix, on my mobile phone. And suddenly the video freezes. I check my notifications. And what do I see, he is auto-updating Netflix. ffs. And believe me, this is not the first time this has happend. I used to use the 9gag app a while ago. And somehow the people of 9gag found it neccasary to update the app like every 2 days, without ever changing a thing. And somehow everytime the app is auto-updated, its while im using it. The whole day, no auto-updates. In the evening when I use the app. Bam update. Thats one of the reasons I stopped using it. Because after the update, the place you were in the app is lost. You have to scroll a the way back down again. There a douzens more examples. It happens to me at least once a week. It has to stop. The app you are using is just suddenly, without a warning killed in front of you eyes. What if im working with some data thats not saved? tough luck I guess. And the part that annoys me the most? The fact that they can prevent it! I'm a developer, and I know the SDK contains a call that will tell you what currently the app in the foreground is. Use that call. damned! I have used the call in one of my apps, its on Github. I know it works. They (Google play store developers) can contact me and I point them to the code. Or if Google won't fix it, maybe someone has to make some root-app that solves this. You can't tell me Google can't wait like an hour or so, and try again to update the app. You can't tell me its that damn important to have all the apps up-to-date, right away. Sorry for this rant. I had to get if off my chest. I like my apps up to date, but not like this.
G+_Paul Croulet
Why not just turn off the auto update option in settings in the play store?
