G+_Ebuka Daniel
Google buying Sprint? It could happen...I've been thinking a bit about Republic Wireless now that they just offered the Moto X to their customers. The phone is being offered unsubsidized for $299 (half of what any other carrier would sell it to you for unsubsidized). Their network is a mesh of WiFi (VoIP calling) and traditional mobile access on the Sprint network (their a Sprint MVNO). Why would Motorola offer Republic Wireless the ability to sell the Moto X for dirt cheap? Perhaps Motorola's parent company, Google, has great interest in seeing them succeed. Perhaps Google would be interested in buying Republic Wireless should they succeed. Perhaps Google is even interested in buying Sprint itself. After all Sprint is a carrier that could be purchased for quite a bit less than Verizon and AT&T. They've also got quite a bit of room to grow and market share to take away. Hey, their Google Voice option already integrates nicely with Sprint. :-) T-Mobile is the only carrier that messes up this thought process with the way they roll out the Nexus alongside Google. But overall I don't see this as such a far fetched idea. Thoughts?
G+_Lucas Nichols
Since sprint was just bought out earlier this year, I doubt this will happen any time soon. And since that purchase their 4g network has probably quadrupled. So they are obviously investing in the company. I just don't see this as a possibility any time soon. My theory is that Google is going to give the finger to all cell carriers and start building a nationwide wifi network or a new network technology. More and more Google seems to be pushing us always being plugged in. Cell reception is too spotty. They need to come up with something more reliable for us to stay plugged in all the time. G+_Dave Bach
It would be nice if in giving that finger they built out an open GSM/LTE network more on par with what Europe has going on. Right now the way it is playing out with all of the different technologies the customers and their devices are being carrier trapped and taken advantage of.?
