G+_Steve LeMoine
Kevin Spitzer maybe you should just let Frank make his own decisions and stop telling him he's doing it wrong and that he should listen to you more. Obviously it's worth it to him to be throttled for a few days to save $40 per month. FYI if he gives up his $30 plan, he can't go back. It's only offered to new customers. BTW those throttled speeds are about what I was getting on Sprint 3G which is why I switched to TMobile. I had a 4G Wimax phone on Sprint but that was not much better. It wouldn't stay connected while driving and speeds were slowere than TMobile HSPA
G+_Mike Welch
So when you're throttled, do all the apps still work (slowly) or do you get timeouts and failures?
G+_Kevin Spitzer (JaguarXT
Steve LeMoine Actually I did. But it is annoying that now he is bite that he complains like T-Mobile is evil.
G+_Frank Pigeon
we live in amazing times. I've never had a thread go 28 deep on FB. lol.
G+_Frank Pigeon
Kevin Spitzer T-Mobile is not evil and I am not complaining just pointing out a limitation of my plan. On average, I use between 2-4GB, talk very little under 100 mins, so for the price this is the best I have found. Since I ma not tied to contract, if I find a better plan I can leave and try another one but so far I have been very happy with T-Mobile.
G+_Frank Pigeon
I can envision a time when carriers will offer data only plans. I'm using voip for calls, google voice for texts, and everything else is just data. So I am also going to change my stream-happy behaviors (ie I just replaced Stitcher Radio with PocketCasts which will allow me to listen to my podcasts locally). I am also going to make my playlists on Spotify for local playback but I really like the radio feature to listen to new music.
G+_Frank Pigeon
Mike Welch apps do still work but unbearable slow...for example pics in your G+ stream take forever and really impact the experience.

G+_Bassam Islam
Frank Pigeon I've read that once you hit the T-Mobile cap, you'd actually get better speeds if you disable 4G/HSPA+, and just use regular 3G/2G speeds. Something to try out, I guess.

G+_Bassam Islam
I guess that's slightly faster. Could still just be within error bounds, though.

G+_Alex Knutson-Smisek
Mike Welch in my experience with tmobile throttling (2gb plan) apps all work just fine because the ping times remain very fast, and the data is slow but at a very consistent speed. As far as I can tell tmobile basically picked an arbitrary speed of about 60 kbps and all incoming and outgoing data remains very near that speed since in reality there is a lot more bandwidth present that tmobile isn't allowing the phone to access. It does make for a crumby experience in some cases but for how inexpensive tmobile is ($20 for my part of a family plan) it's been totally worth it. G+_Lejf Rossi
Its the same here in Denmark, I pay $12, get 200 SMS 10 cents per minuite and get 1 GB of data, after that I get throttled to 120 kb/s. with that I usually use around 20 GB a month. G+_Steve LeMoine
Kevin Spitzer Frank did not complain about Tmobile anywhere in here. He posted useful information for those of us who have not been throttled before. Frank Pigeon The wife uses Spotify but I'm testing out Google Music All Access. I noticed you can start a Radio Station in Google then add each song to a Playlist. Then you can download the Playlist to your device. Don't know if that's possible with Spotify. Yes you can use WiFi calling on the prepaid plans but only a few phones support it. It still uses your minutes anyway so that would not help you stay under
G+_Lejf Rossi
On the computer you can. You can take the que and our it into the playlist. But i assume that Google all access might be better for that. I am thinking about switching, but i just love spotify. The p2p thing is kind cool. Instant start times for a song.
G+_Frank Pigeon
hey Steve LeMoine yes Spotify has a radio feature, download playlists, and awesome sharing capability. Since I am in a band at church, I can create the setlist for Sunday and share with band members via FB chat for example or publish my setlist. Google All Access is neck and neck in features so I am on the fence with this one. A few dollars cheaper a month if you sign up before end of Jun with Google Music. $7.99 vs $9.99. Since I am price sensitive that may be the deciding factor. Thanks for the wifi calling update. I need to check with T-Mobile if my phone is supported. Their chat and customer support are always excellent.
G+_Frank Pigeon
Lejf Rossi yeah I love Spotify too. I left Pandora for them, now it may be moving to Google All Access.
G+_Steve LeMoine
Thanks for the info on Spotify, Frank. My wife streams playlists she gets from her friends but doesn't know how to download them. Also, Spotify has a much larger database of music but I'm sure the Goog will catch up. I just cancelled my auto renewal on Pandora One premium. ? G+_Frank Pigeon
Steve LeMoine Pandora was my first love. I mostly listen to Passion artists and they are all on Google All Access Music. Once you are in a playlist in Spotify, there is a green download button you click on and playlist songs will be stored locally.

G+_Frank Pigeon
Suyon Sinclair I think all but Sprint have caps on the data usage before they throttle you from the major carriers.
