Google Glass Provides Helpful Tools During Surgery Google Glass is a small computer configured like a pair of eyeglasses. It is already gaining popularity as a teaching tool in medicine, recording surgeries, which can be streamed to students. Cardiothoracic surgeon Pierre Theodore, MD, is finding new applications for Google Glass that he believes have much potential to help doctors all around the world during surgery. Theodore loads CT and X-ray images that he needs during surgery into his Google Glass, and pulls them up during the operation to compare a medical scan with the actual surgical site. “Often one will remove a tumor that may be deeply hidden inside an organ – the liver, the lung – for example,” said Theodore. “To be able to have those X-rays directly in your field without having to leave the operating room or to log on to another system elsewhere, or to turn yourself away from the patient in order to divert your attention, is very helpful in terms of maintaining your attention where it should be, which is on the patient 100 percent of the time.” See a video here: Read the whole article here: http://www.ucsf.edu/news/2013/10/109526/surgeon-improves-safety-efficiency-operating-room-google-glass
