G+_Michael Keepper
All my Nexus devices have the Lollipop 5.1 update and are doing fine except my Nexus 4 which now only has 3 hours battery life. There is no rhyme or reason why it is so short except that maybe it is getting old. Anyone else encounter this problem?
G+_Philotech Mueller
Did you restart the device already? Probably just an old battery.
G+_Michael Keepper
I am going through my apps and uninstalling them too to try to improve the battery life too!
G+_Kenny “KitkatRai” Rouss
When they make an Android version, it has to be different for EVERY device, the N5 = different than the N4 and N6, same with the N9, they have different code base, hardware, etc and that just makes it different, so WHY does one perform better than the other? Code, optimization, could be a few things but it's on THAT'S the problem, the software itself
G+_Michael Keepper
I have shutdown and restarted a number of times. No change!
G+_Michael Keepper
Google Play Services does not even register on the Battery Usage meter app that I have. I did set Location services to Battery Saving. I have gained a hour but still only 4 hours battery life as opposed to all day life before Android 5.1. G+_Jesse Kawell
Just my two cents: My Nexus 4 actually has improved battery life with 5.1.

G+_Michael Keepper
Jesse Kawell What carrier do you have? I have T-Mobile. I wonder if the carrier had any bearing on this battery issue?

G+_Larry Hemond
I had the same problem after upgrading my Nexus 4 to 5.1. 4 days later after rebooting daily problem went away.
G+_Neil Sedlak
Yes, carrier signal strength could be a factor. Try turning off HD calling and see if things improve. G+_Sean Behan
I have a nexus 4 and I usually get about 3 hours from 100 to 40. I don't like draining it below 40 more than once a month cause I read that that's how to maintain longest battery life (80 to 40). but once a month to 15 or so to make sure I'm using the full battery capacity. G+_Sean Behan
Michael Keepper?? disable lookout, enable google device locator. remove percent indicator, install this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.kroegerama.android4batpercent and I don't know what that other icon is. VPN will also use a lot of battery life by maintaining a connection.? install greenify and greenify apps that shouldn't be running in the background. G+_Michael Keepper
Sean Behan Thank you! I will give your suggestions a try. Worth a shot!
G+_Sean Behan
Michael Keepper no problem :) glad I could help. in my experience, percent notifications tend to use a lot of battery. that percent battery app should work on almost any device. greenify will also help a lot, make sure not to greenify apps that you want to receive notifications from. your VPN will probably drain a bit of power but not too much more other than downloads maybe taking longer if it's a slow connection. I'd also turn location to power save mode as long as you don't use your phone as a GPS.
G+_Michael Keepper
Had a big turn around on my Nexus 4! From 2 hours on standby to 48 hours. I have been rebooting daily and then last night I let the battery drain completely. I did delete a couple of apps but the rebooting and draining the battery seems to have done the trick. Weird! G+_Mike Kramer
My girlfriend has been using my nexus 4 for a week now, it was sucking the battery away running stock 5.1, you could always try the nightlies of CM12.1 currently on 5.1.1 and seems to hold a charge for the better part of the day now since installing it.
