G+_DJ NightKat
Dear AAA Crew, and Fans.. I'd Really like this to be featured on an episode, as I really think this misconception needs to be addressed correctly. Android vs. Google Android. Gina briefly touched on this in the previous show, but was quickly rebuffed it seems. Simply put Android IS AN OPEN OS. Any phone maker can go out, make a device, and have a fully made, fully featured smartphone OS that doesn't need to be built from scratch. On top of that, they already have hundreds of thousands of developers who can build the apps, and mostly mature tools to build the apps. What they can NOT do, is take advantage of Google's Services freely with no payback. What they can NOT do, is put Google's name on the device, and offer a drastically reduced experience. What they can NOT do is stand on Google's shoulders to crush them underfoot. Today, Google's restrictions for GMS on a device became public. (http://www.benedelman.org/news/021314-1.html) And already, people are looking at this saying that Google is being "Anti-Competitive). Call me naive, but I don't see this. I see a company going, "If you're going to benefit from us and our hard work, we need some benefit from you.". Many companies use money for this, Google does this through mutually beneficial services. That's how Android works. Google makes updates and tweaks to the Open Source Android OS. But says, if you're going to feature Our apps, and use Our Services, we want to make sure that we have a certain level of control over the user experience. Let me make this relate able. If you let someone stay at your house for free, how would you feel if they talked behind your back, trashed your living room when you had guests, and then throw a party using your address book, but then then tell you you couldn't come to the party. How would You feel? http://www.benedelman.org/news/021314-1.html
